HVAC@SVHEC is a hands-on training program offering the skills and certifications needed for success in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC).
HVAC workers earn an average of $37,000 annually, and businesses in Southern Virginia employ more than 500 individuals throughout the region. Yet, many of these employers cite difficulty in finding work-ready individuals with the technical skills required for success.

About the Program
Real workplace labs and soft skills prepare individuals with the knowledge and certifications required for employment in Southern Virginia’s HVAC industry. Trainees may earn their NCCER CORE, NCCER HVAC Level 1, NCCER HVAC Level 2, and OSHA 10 certifications.
In-demand skills acquired include:
- Air Distribution
- Basic Electricity
- Refrigerants and Oils
- Leak Detection, Evacuation, Recovery and Charging
- Heat pumps
- Chimneys, Vents, and Flues
- Basic Maintenance
HVAC training will prepare you
for a wide variety of jobs including:
- HVAC Repair Technician
- HVAC Installation Technician
- HVAC Mechanic
- HVAC Inspector
- HVAC Helper
- 18 years or older
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid form of ID
- Attend one information session
- Consent to a drug and background check
- Complete ACT WorkKeys Assessment
