The SVHEC’s Career Tech Academy (CTA) is now accepting applications for the 2025-2026 school year. Rising high school juniors and seniors are encouraged to apply early to secure their spot in this in-demand program offering hands-on training in automation & robotics, energy systems technology, HVAC, information technology, and welding.

Rising seniors may apply for the Year 2 Work-Based Learning (WBL) program provides work experiences for students by pairing them with a regional employer so they can gain valuable on-the-job training. Through a partnership with the SoVA RISE Collaborative, the Work-Based Learning program offers students an entrepreneurship track to give them the knowledge, skills, and mentorship needed to start a small business.

The Career Tech Academy is open to students from Charlotte, Halifax, and Mecklenburg Counties. CTA partnerships with Danville and Southside Virginia Community Colleges means students are dual-enrolled so they earn college and high school credits at the same time. According to SVHEC data, 60% of CTA students use these credits to continue their education at a four-year college or university.  The other 40% of CTA students use their training, skills, and certifications to enter the workforce after completing high school.
