Career Tech Academy-IT students competed in Danville Community College’s CyberKnights Showdown. The “Hacker & Quill” team of Alaina Cash and Sam Ricardo placed 3rd in the competition. Cash is also a member of SVHEC’s Women in Technology (W.I.T) club which provides support, mentorship, and networking for women and girls pursuing STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) careers.
The annual competition focuses on cybersecurity and students compete in categories including open source intelligence gathering, forensic analysis, web exploitation, steganography, cryptography, network traffic analysis, reverse engineering and encryption. Teams of students compete in a rotation of challenges, and the teams with the highest point total wins.
CTA-IT students competed against students from Pittsylvania County’s Career & Technical Center during the three-hour competition. Members of the top three winning teams won new laptop computers provided by Danville Community College’s Educational Foundation.
