Parents, students, community members and business leaders are invited to attend the Career & Technical Education (CTE) Showcase on Thursday, October 17th on the campus of the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center. This family-friendly event, now in its second year, provides attendees with information and resources on the training programs offered by Halifax County Public Schools and the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center. It also highlights the vital role of career & technical education in building a strong community and local economy.
Pre-registration is available at bit.ly/showcasecte.
The CTE Showcase begins in the Prizery’s Chastain Theatre with a kick-off presentation. This year’s session will include an exclusive virtual tour of the new Halifax County High School, offering attendees an early look at its design and layout. Additionally, HCPS Superintendent Dr. Amy Huskin will introduce “The Academy Approach,” an innovative educational model that blends academic subjects like math, English, and science with Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes. This approach is central to the design of the new high school.
CTE Showcase attendees will receive a free Decision Guide designed to help parents and students navigate the critical decision points they face when mapping out their education and career goals. Because many of these decisions arise as early as middle school, fourth and fifth grade students and parents are encouraged to attend the CTE Showcase.
Following the kick-off presentation, attendees will have an opportunity to visit each CTE program area, learn about job opportunities in those areas, and tour lab spaces. Guidance and career counselors will be available to meet with parents and students one-on-one and in small groups to answer questions and help map out a plan that works best for their student’s career goals.
Everyone who completes the tour may enter a raffle for a chance to win exciting prizes.
Event Schedule:
- 5:15pm: Prizery Doors Open
