Students in Danville Community College’s Emergency Medicine Technician program at SVHEC recently participated in a hands-on skills lab. Students practiced applying splints, dressing wounds, stabilizing fractures, and safely securing a patient to a backboard.
Student Andrew Matteson is employed by the Department of Forestry, and pursuing EMT training to gain needed skills. “We don’t have a lot of EMTs in the field and out west when fighting wild fires. I thought it would be great to get my EMT certification to better help my agency here in Halifax County and out west on our fire lines.”
