The Southern Virginia Higher Education Center (SVHEC) has been awarded a 2024 HVAC Technical School Grant from the Propane Education & Research Council. Davenport Energy, a regional leader in propane, fuel oil, and petroleum product distribution, partnered with SVHEC to pursue this grant.

“We felt there was a need to get gas industry skills as part of the educational offering in our area and SVHEC was the perfect partner to pursue this with,” said Joe Pennesi, Director of Operations for Davenport Energy.

The $10,000 award will allow the HVAC@SVHEC program to incorporate gas technology into the program. Grant funds will be used to purchase equipment and course materials to include liquid leak detection solution, propane hydrometer, and three pressure measuring devices.

“We are excited about this opportunity and extend our sincere thanks to Davenport Energy for their partnership in pursuing this grant. HVAC@SVHEC program leader Duane Hatcher did an excellent job overseeing the grant process and will serve an instrumental role in growing the program to meet the needs of our regional employers,” said Sandi Satterfield, SVHEC Director of Workforce Training Programs.
